Punta Cana is one of the most visited destinations in the Caribbean — and for good reason. But first-time visitors often miss out on the best experiences, or make easily avoidable mistakes. Here are 20 essential tips to help you have the perfect Punta Cana vacation.

Before You Go

1. Book excursions in advance. Popular tours like Saona Island sell out weeks in advance during high season (December–April). Don’t leave it until you arrive.

2. Get travel insurance. While Punta Cana is generally safe, travel insurance protects you against trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and lost luggage. It’s worth the cost of peace of mind.
